Wedding Anniversary

I slept well until 2.30am, when I looked at the clock and thought ‘I won’t be able to go back to sleep now. Next minute it was 6am and Ian was furtelling about in the lounge. Turns out he was watching for the sun to rise off the back of the ship. Sadly there was some cloud but it was still spectacular.

I took the time between then and Sagar arriving with our breakfast to unpack and organise everything in our copious amounts of wardrobes and drawers. Sagar arrived at bang on eight and laid out a spectacular breakfast on the balcony, a lovely way to celebrate forty years together.

Not a bad breakfast spot

Today was a sea day so we lazed about a bit, then took another promenade of the ship. We did the Sunday pub quiz, had a light lunch, watched some football, then it was time for my prebooked hair appointment. This was in the Oasis spa on deck five, forward. We are very aft so it’s the full length of the ship away. Still, getting my steps in. My stylist was Ash, from India. He did a good job, but was very keen to sell me some very expensive treatments. He soon found out I am from Yorkshire. Hair styled I listened to a pianist in the atrium for a bit before returning to the suite to chill on my immense balcony. This morning had been too hot, but this afternoon it was in shade and wonderful to sit out and watch the sea. Ian had gone off to the gym for a run to keep in trim for the half marathon he is doing very soon.  We also heard from our Captain, Captain Andrew Foote. Or Afoot as I like to call him. To be honest, he is not a very inspiring Captain. Unlike Captain Pizza Hut I don’t feel he would save me if we hit an iceberg.

On the little balcony

I had booked the Epicurean, a signature (extra money!) restaurant for tea. The most salubrious on board. And tonight’s dress code was black tie. We also had a ‘welcome suite dweller’ bottle of champagne in the fridge. The only thing to decide was which of my many dresses to wear!

Sadly, I forgot the ‘welcome suite dweller’ champagne and Ian had to run back for it in his Dinner suit. But we were soon seated by the window being fawned over by all and sundry. We both had scallops for starter, they then fetched us an ‘amuse bouch of puréed melon and raspberry. For main we shared a ‘hand cut’ T-Bone. (No machine cutting of these steaks!). I have had better scallops, but the steak was up there with the one in Lake Como, and the one up a mountain somewhere in Italy. Yes, I keep a list of my top three, all time steaks. Then we were treated to a gin and tonic sorbet, before puds of crepe suzette for me, and cheese for Ian. All in all it was a lovely, and suitably posh , meal for a 40th anniversary.

Cheers!

Afterwards, we checked in at the library to see that both Kathy’s books had gone. I will be scoping for them for the rest of the cruise so I can say ‘that’s my daughter!’ We then popped in to see Captain Afoots welcome address. Uninspiring as previously stated. We followed this with a Jack Daniel’s in the Atrium where the waiter mistakenly gave Ian ice! Then the movie theme quiz in Brodies, P&O’s version of Spoons. Sadly our score of 12 was no where near the winners 19/20. Ian felt the little ones could have helped, I wasn’t so sure of their knowledge of the theme tune to Forest Gump. After that it was time for bed. We lasted till 10.30 this time, and despite me having my snoozeband at the ready we didn’t hear a peep from the nightclub below.
