St Lucia

Overnight, while sailing the Caribbean, there was to be a mega celestial event. A total lunar eclipse. I set my alarm for 3am so I could get up and rush onto the balcony. ‘No point’ said Ian. We won’t be able to see the moon from our enormous balcony. Damn! But no way I was wandering the ship at 3am, so I turned off my alarm. Ian woke me at 3am. Quick, the eclipse! And there it was, blood red, shining high above our enormous balcony. So I got to see it in the end.

We had no trips planned for our first day in St Lucia, this was an overnight stay, but I still rushed onto the balcony to see us approach. I love this part of cruising, the sail in and sail away. The harbour of Castries, the capital, (as you all know from pointless), is a horseshoe shape really picturesque. We also had company, in the shape of the Norwegian viva.

We popped up to the Epicurean for another breakfast, the Maitre D is like an old friend now. As you know we are all suite dwellers up there. Then we did our customary visit to the Crows Nest, library (no sign of Kaths books) and spin around the open decks (no sign there either).

After sun creaming up we went down to have a look around the town.

In St Lucia

As you can see

We decided to take the little water ferry around the ship and to the other pier where the rival ship was docked, then walk back around. The ferry was good fun as we got a look at the harbour.

From the ferry

We had a look in the colourful markets then made our way round the harbour back to the ship.

Harbour walk

Back on board we went up to the sunset bar and had a lovely lunch sat outside watching the world go by. And a couple of Pina Coladas.

Lunch with a view

After the walk and lunch, not to mention the drinks, I was very weary, so I had a lovely afternoon nap. After I woke we did a little quiz in the Crystal Room, which we failed to win, before preparing ourselves for the evening. We were off to the Limelight club to see the one and only, Chesney Hawkes.

Ready for Chesney

Once again, despite being a bit early, we were one of the last ones there. Our table had a pretty good view though. The Limelight Club is an ‘intimate venue’ a bit like an old style nightclub. You get a meal first, then the turn. Chesney was really good. Obviously everyone only knows the one song, but his other songs were really good too. And did you know his dad was lead singer of the Tremeloes? (Silence is golden, which he also sang). And his mum was a Golden Shot Girl? He also did a question and answer session.

The Limelight club with Chesney

At the end he invited everyone to get up and sing his most famous song with him. I rushed to the front to dance. Yes! I was dancing with Chesney Hawkes! I could see Ian in the crowd filming. Great. Photographic evidence. Sadly, Ian did not get the evidence required. All he had filmed was the back of my head for about a second. Fuming!!

After the evening’s excitement we popped up to The Crows Nest for a nightcap, where we saw someone get thrown out for wearing shorts, then off to bed, still singing, ‘I am the one and only’
